Our Story

We tapped our first maple tree in 2019, and with a turkey fryer and many long evenings, the first bottle of Lazy Dog maple syrup was born.

We’ve since expanded our operation doubling the number of tapped trees in each of the past three years.

Our “aha!” moment came in 2021. By storing some left over late-season syrup in a local distiller’s bourbon barrel, we produced the first batch of our bourbon barrel aged maple syrup.

We were astounded that the syrup had taken on even the subtle notes of the bourbon’s complex flavor while maintaining the naturally bold and delicious maple.

We were hooked! We began refining our unique flavor infusion process allowing us to introduce unique ingredients into our syrup without overwhelming the maple flavor.

That discovery sparked our passion for flavor infusion. We began experimenting with real ingredients, never extracts or shortcuts, to create bold, balanced syrups that celebrate the maple, not mask it.

Today, Lazy Dog offers over a dozen handcrafted, flavor-infused maple syrups. From morning lattes to evening cocktails, weekend waffles to backyard grilling, there’s a syrup for every moment.

We’re proud to be a family-owned and operated business, and we pour that pride into every bottle.

The Dog Behind the Logo

At Lazy Dog, our name and logo are inspired by the most laid-back member of our family: Jagger, our red English Lab. If you’ve ever met Jagger, you know he’s got one speed, slow and steady. Whether he’s lounging in the sun or snoring by the fire, Jagger perfectly embodies the easygoing spirit we bring to everything we do.

So when it came time to name our maple syrup company, “Lazy Dog” just felt right. After all, our syrup is crafted with patience, care, and a little bit of that Jagger-style chill.

Now, here’s the twist: Jagger is actually diabetic. Yep, we know, the irony is rich (just like our syrup). But Jagger’s condition reminds us that the sweetness in life should be enjoyed.

Jagger may not taste the syrup, but he’s still the heart of our brand. His calm demeanor, loyal nature, and unapologetic laziness inspire us to slow down, savor the moment, and pour a little joy into every bottle.
